Effect of Sintering Parameters on the Mechanical Properties and Wear Performance of Alumina Inserts

The sintering temperature and holding time have a significant impact on the densification of ceramic compact. In this study, alumina inserts were made with varying temperatures times. procedure began compacting powders inside mould trapezium round shapes. These then sintered between 1200 °C 1400 for 5 to 9 h time. samples underwent analysis based shrinkage size, density, microstructure. sample highest density was chosen additional machining tests. results showed that ranged from 3 6%, maximum relative 91.3% recorded when parameter applied at transition grain growth observed depending heating duration. When machined AISI 1045 carbon steel, achieved tool life 35 s cutting speed 350 m/min. exhibited brittle characteristics dominant notch wear abrasive mechanisms.
